Face It! supports recovery awareness and education and provides hope for people with AOD disease as well as family members, friends, coworkers and loved ones.
The mission of Face It! is to dramatically increase both the number of individuals and families in recovery and the quality and accessibility of services by creating a recovery-oriented system of care.
It was with great anticipation that the Face It! Sioux Falls Speaker's Bureau kicked off at Raven Industries on June 14th.
A total of 31 presentations with 14 different speakers shared their personal stories of addiction and delivered a message of hope for recovery. The presentations reached over 800 employees.
The Ravens presentation was introduced by Barb Ohme, Senior Vice President of Human Resources sharing the Mission of the Face It! Employers Class of 2009. Ravens along with 12 other employers in Sioux Falls touching over 15,000 employees will be holding similar awareness campaigns to bring recovery into their wellness program.
Survey results from a study commissioned by Face It! indicated that 10% of Sioux Falls residents struggle with addiction while 85% of them never seek help. Each of them has a negative impact on 4 to 5 people around them (parents, spouse, children, employers etc. The bottom line is 80,000+ people in our community are dealing daily with problems of addiction.
The stories shared were of recovering alcoholics, addicts and family members who courageously spoke to put a "real" face on recovery in an attempt to eliminate some of the stigmas while breaking down barriers for individuals to get help.
Tanya Montgomery of Face It! Sioux Falls congratulated Raven's for being instrumental in the development of the Employer's Speakers Bureau. "It is inspiring to see employers taking the steps to open the lines of communication with their employees on a subject that for years has been a taboo. We look forward to adding to this group with the Class of 2010 to reach even more who are struggling with this chronic disease as well as their families"
